Are price comparison websites representative

23rd June 2010

Criticisms have been made to some price comparison companies after it was revealed that they are becoming increasingly biased about the products that they compare.

In a bid to make more profit from the services they provide, price comparison websites sometimes charge a fee to bad credit credit card companies to appear on ‘most recommended’ best buy tables. With these charges running into thousands of pounds, smaller firms which refuse to pay for the service can become left out. Over time, this can mean that the top results consumers receive can mainly consist of lenders willing to pay the price to be promoted, with some services that may benefit a consumer better wallowing at the bottom.

This has led for many organisations that work in the interest of consumers to offer new advice. The advice is this: look through all of the results you are given comprehensively to make an informed decision, instead of just looking at the results which are recommended. Alternatively, avoiding these sites and doing research through individual companies can allow you to get a better result which may be more pertinent to your needs.

Some experts believe that this is very unfortunate for the average consumer, with some being rather vulnerable following on from the turbulent financial times of late. With millions of people using these services frequently, there are also fears that those searching for good deals on other financial necessities could also be confronted with results that are not as representative as they should be.

The money comparison websites themselves are downplaying the allegations which are being made about the opinionated results towards bad credit credit cards. With many of the main competitors in the market asking for these fees, it is hoped that lenders will soon find it the norm to pay in order to become recommended in order of performance.

All of this comes as it has been revealed that other price comparison websites are also giving consumers a raw deal – because the research conducted into bad credit credit cards is not detailed enough to provide the most economical option for the consumer.

All in all, the advice is this: even though price comparison websites can appear to be an easy and appealing way to get the best deal, all may not be as it seems. By comparing comparison websites (as complicated as it sounds), and by ensuring you do not neglect credit card firms which may not use these services to advertise themselves, you are bound to get a card which is the best suited to tour needs overall.

Finance can be a delicate matter if you are looking for a bad credit credit card. By ensuring that you get the one which is most viable to the circumstances you have, you could conserve valuable money which can allow you to become more stable, as well as keeping up with other monetary commitments which you may have on your plate. After all, life can be complicated enough at times!
